I completed my Bachelor of Psychology in 2011 and my Doctor of Psychology (Clinical) in 2016, with my doctoral thesis exploring identity in adolescents from refugee backgrounds.
Over the past 10 years, I have worked as a psychologist in a range of settings, including inpatient settings and non-government organisations. For a 6-year period from 2017-2023, I had the opportunity to work in a youth alcohol & other drug service, where I provided psychological support to adolescents and young adults experiencing substance use concerns and related issues. In this role, I facilitated group work programs and provided clinical supervision to youth workers and allied health professionals.
I use an integrated approach to treatment, with a predominantly psychodynamic/ attachment-based focus. As needed, I draw on therapies that fall under the umbrella of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (e.g., Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy). In psychodynamic psychotherapy, change occurs through enhanced self-awareness, which enables the client greater freedom to make informed choices whilst strengthening their sense of self. At times, the process of enhancing self-awareness may be complemented by more structured problem-solving and skills-based work.
